A journey to the heart of autumn colors in the Basques
Rédaction
Mélanie Paquet, fascinated by history, tells our own story with her inspiring pen.
Autumn in the Basques is synonymous with the ocher, orange and red colors that appear in the wheat fields, on the hiking trails and in the tall grass of the seaside.
Sentier national under orange colors
Even if the coolness slowly sets in, autumn allows you to discover hiking trails such as the Sentier National from a different perspective.
The trees slowly change colors and allow you to highlight the wild nature of the different faces that nature will reveal to you.
Cycling with hair in the wind!
Bike enthusiasts? The Route verte is also a great discovery to make in the region des Basques! Along the St. Lawrence River, these views are breathtaking!
The portion of the Route verte in Saint-Simon-de-Rimouski is for experienced cyclists but the landscapes compensate for the efforts made, especially in the corner of Porc Pic where you will access the Belvédère Beaulieu, located 185 meters above the cliff overlooking the river.
Colorful public markets!
Autumn is synonymous with harvests. The territory of the Basques is no exception and several local producers offer fresh vegetables during the public markets present in the territory: Marché public des Basques, Marché du Bon Voisinage de Saint-Simon and Marché Plein-Air de Saint-Mathieu-de -Rioux.
What could be more satisfying than preparing a good soup or broth with local vegetables, especially to warm up in the evening after doing outdoor activities during the day?
Sunsets in fall!
The light is changing, but the sunsets are also majestic!
So, why not take advantage of the beautiful fall evenings to go out on the St. Lawrence river in a sea kayak or rabaska (available for groups) with Coop Kayaks des Îles? There you will discover the magnificent islands of the St. Lawrence River in the most beautiful light of day.
Be at the front of the line to witness this unique show which takes place in front of Trois-Pistoles every evening.
Telling stories… in the woods!
How exciting it is to be told stories! Here, autumn means the Festival “Le Rendez-vous des Grandes Gueules” which has been held for over 25 years in Trois-Pistoles and surrounding villages on Thanksgiving weekend.
The storytelling hikes witch take place on natural sites, are the most popular, as is the Grande veillée de contes! Most shows take place at La Forge à Bérubé, a legendary Trois-Pistoles venue. Mark your calendars for this festival!
It’s time to plan your autumn escape to the Basques!
