Family autumn in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region starts in Témiscouata!
Writing
Olivier Gingras, lover of terroir and wide open spaces, always looking for discoveries and experiences to share.
From colorful mountains to grandma’s comforting pottages, fall in Bas-Saint-Laurent is definitely a season to experience in Témiscouata. It’s a region that offers close proximity not only to nature and trails, but also to local artisans and producers.
For the whole family, there’s a wide range of activities to enjoy: let’s take a look at some of these…
The National Hiking Trail in the Bas-Saint-Laurent
Including several access points between Dégelis and Trois-Pistoles, this trail is adorned with breathtaking scenery and is an immersion into the heart of Témiscouta’s wilderness.
The trail includes several panoramic views, each more grandiose than the other! The ideal hike to contemplate the autumn colors and smell the smooth fragrance of the forest and fallen leaves.
The trail is divided into 12 sections, with parking at each section start and finish.
Sentier des Curieux, Parc national du Lac-Témiscouata
Of course, Parc national du Lac-Témiscouata is full of trails with incredible panoramic views, but it also offers a superb outdoor layout and play trail at the Grand-Lac-Touladi service center.
This attractive environment includes a picnic area, water sports facilities, a playground for little ones and the famous Sentier des Curieux. A 720 m trail filled with hebertism obstacles, fun learning games and discoveries for all.
It’s the perfect place to let off the little ones’ energy, or take a break for a colorful family picnic.
PGR Recreation Center, Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac
For rainy or cloudy days (as they often are in autumn), the PGR recreation center offers water games and indoor play modules, sports simulators (golf, baseball, soccer, field hockey, archery, shooting games and more), free-play sports (pickleball, badminton, volleyball), a running track, a historical museum… a multitude of activities for the whole family to enjoy!
A 23-metre-high observation tower, attached to the center, offers a unique view of Lake Témiscouata and the colorful forests that border it.
Frambleu Ouellet, Saint-Elzéar-de-Témiscouata
Autumn is harvest season, and pick-your-own is definitely the outdoor activity of choice for the whole family. It’s an activity that shows just how much work goes into growing fruit and vegetables, and makes the meals that follow all the more delectable simply because everyone, young and old, has contributed in their own way.
This family business offers a wide variety of fresh, home-grown produce: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, pears…
And when they’re ready, you can even pick your own pumpkins!
Festival du Pointu de Saint-Juste-du-Lac
If you’re looking for a unique fishing experience for the whole family, Saint-Juste-du-Lac’s Festival du Pointu is a must. From October 11 to 20, fresh fish lovers gather at the mouth of the Touladi River to enjoy the abundance of this unique fishery. The event takes place in the evening, with a landing net stretched out to catch a maximum of 50 whitefish per participant.
The festival offers a wide range of daytime family activities, which you can discover on the festival’s page.
Happy autumn and happy colors!
