A crab meal is a feast. When you put this crustacean on your menu, you’re guaranteed a tasty and memorable moment. In season, many fishmongers in the Lower St. Lawrence region offer plump decapods, dead or alive, fished from the nearby river. All you have to do is invite your friends and chill the white wine!

  • Poissonnerie Lauzier, Kamouraska et Rivière-du-Loup

In 1996, a passionate fisherman opened this small business that has become a must-stop in Kamouraska. The Rivière-du-Loup branch inaugurated its new building just in time for the arrival of the shellfish.

  • Les Pêcheries Ouellet, Kamouraska

The Ouellet family has specialized in seafood for over a century. So they know how to cook a crab just right. And they do it very well.

  • Poissonnerie Bonne Bouffe, Rivière-du-Loup

In 14 springs, the business has seen a lot of crab legs fly off the shelves! For those who don’t like fighting with shells, this fishmonger, like many others, does the dirty work for you and cooks up a bowl of poké you won’t soon forget.

  • Marché des 3 fumoirs, L’Isle-Verte

With its three little smoking huts, lined up in descending order like Russian dolls, this fish market is easy to spot in L’Isle-Verte. And it’s not just for its “boucanés”, but also for its fresh crab.

  • Poissonnerie Verseau II, Trois-Pistoles

Firmly anchored on Route 132, the fishmonger’s blue net catches the eye of many passing motorists, who discover an urgent need to eat seafood. Traffic increases, of course, during crab season…

  • Poissonnerie De l’eau à la bouche, Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac

Just because you’re farther from the sea doesn’t mean you can’t suck on a crab leg once in a while… In Témiscouata, you’ll find a well-stocked counter on Rue Commerciale.

  • Poissonnerie Gagnon, Rimouski

Open for more than 45 years, this fishmonger’s right on the waterfront couldn’t offer a fresher product. Its bus delivery service for addicted gourmets from Quebec City and Montreal is proving extremely popular.

  • Marché de poisson Lemieux, Rimouski

Since sharing videos on TikTok, the Lemieux twins have doubled the clientele of their fisherman father’s fish shop. We go there to meet the two influencers, tattooed to the neck and wearing the marinière, and to buy the ten-legged beast lovingly cooked according to a secret family recipe.

  • Pêcheries Ian Chouinard et Marius Doucet, Rimouski

Competitive, the crab fishing community? Above all, it’s one of solidarity. Having met on the wharf, the Chouinard and Doucet families joined forces to sell their precious harvest from a store on rue Saint-Germain.

  • Poissonnerie Doucet et fils, Rimouski

Rain or shine, the P’tit Doucet sets sail to catch sea creatures. For the past 50 years, the sacrifices have been sold fresh or processed in the seasonal store on Route 132.
